The
Flow is a personal appreciation of traditional Irish flute playing
styles and takes its name from a description once given to the style of
the late Paddy Carty.
The
site looks at a number of ways of playing Irish traditional dance music
on the flute, what options are available to musicians who wish to play
in a traditional manner, some information on flute players and some
personal thoughts on playing traditional Irish flute.
You will get the most from this site if you already have some
understanding of traditional Irish music and the role of the flute
within it. There are references to useful material on the resources pages, some of which make good introductions for those who wish to find out more.
I welcome all comments and thoughts on the content (and omissions) and
reserve the right to change the opinions expressed within.
The
Flow is a labour of love and any click on a Google Ads link will
contribute a small fee to the upkeep of the site. So at the end your
visit, please consider exiting via one of these links as a painless
means of supporting this project. Like a nod to the barman when leaving
a session at the end of the evening, it costs nothing to do but helps
the world to keep turning.
